Altitude: 640 m asl
Only 4 km from Lienz and embedded in a basin, there is the holiday village Nussdorf-Debant. In close proximity, there is a witness of ancient times, which is the open-air museum Aguntum. It recalls times when, partly on the grounds of this village, Romans built the trade city Aguntum. The museum is open all-day from April to October. All those who are interested in culture, there is also a combi-card Aguntum and Bruck Castle (Lienz)!
Consisting of Nussdorf (see pic) at the Nussdorf mountain and the settlement Debant, this village is located directly at the foot of the Grossglockner panoramic road, which is particularly popular with motor bikers, as this high alpine road takes you across the majestic world of the Grossglockner mountain. Numerous viewpoints, six educational trails and two information centres along the road provide an insight into the unique world of these mountains.
Also in the centre of the village you can become active. The adventure trail “Nussdorfer Berg” starts at the Toni Egger-Park and takes you across steps, forest roads and meadows to the “Bergermoar”, up to the highest farms of the Nussdorf mountain. However, if you prefer pedaling, you can cycle along the 28 km from Lienz to Nussdorf and the Faschingalm alpine pasture, which is of medium difficulty. In the cold winter months, usually a mantle of snow is covering the village, providing a great landscape for romantic winter walks. Maybe you prefer making a sled ride on the Debantweg chute, overcoming a difference in altitude of about 850 metres? Or you would like to try cross-country skiing on the Dolomite cross-country ski run of 15 km?
Our tip: The St. Helena church has been built about 500 years ago in Gothic style. Inside this church there are three altars and an organ protected as a historic monument - really worth to be visited!
