Häselgehr

The holiday resort of Häselgehr, including several hamlets, is located in the upper Lechtal valley.

Located at 1,003 m asl, Häselgehr is protected by one of the largest avalanche barriers of Central Europe, as the village has repeatedly been threatened by avalanches from the Heuberg mountain, towering above the village. In 1358 AD “Hesligeren” has been mentioned for the first time, which refers to a cuneiform field system overgrown with hazelnuts. Today the municipality is composed of the hamlets Obergriessgau, Untergriessau, Ort, Schönau, Oberhäselgehr, Luxnach, Alach, Rauchwand, Häternach and Gutschau.

Häselgehr is located far away from hustle and bustle and is ideal terrain for those who seek relaxation and calm environs. Also those who love hiking can look forward to the beautiful landscape of the Nature Park Tiroler Lech as well as the Lechtal Alps. Popular hiking destinations are the managed alpine mountain huts such as the Griessbachalm hut (see pic). Via the path n° 8 you can reach this hut in a two-hour’s walk from Griessau. Likewise popular is the hike to the Lachenkopf mountain, a place that provides a great view on Häselgehr. The path n° 6 takes you from the Häselgehrer Lechbrücke bridge via the sawmill and the swimming pool to Marienruh in a 3 - 3.5-hours’ walk. Further on the path takes you past the so-called “Hanselstadl”, an uninhabited shepherds’ refuge, and up to the 2,112 m high Lachenkopf in the Allgäu Alps.

Those who seek the thrill can experience the “Natural Landscape of the Year 1997″ also from the water or the air when doing paragliding or rafting in the Lech river. If you prefer staying on dry land we recommend you to make a horse ride in the meadows in the surroundings. Directly in the village, there is a miniature golf course, a beach volley field and an outdoor pool. In winter, however, Häselgehr is a perfect terrain for ski tours, e.g. on the 2,606 m high Bretterspitze mountain in the Lechtal Alps. By the way: The emblem shows a casket that was used for the tickets for the right of use of uncultivated steep alpine meadows.

Our tip: Only 8 km from Häselgehr there is Gramais, the smallest autonomous village of Austria!
