St. Jakob in Defereggen

A great scenery surrounds the village in the Defereggental valley.

We warmly welcome you in the main locality of the Defereggental valley! Due to the large forest area that belongs to the village, your vacation takes place in beneficial climate. Not far from St. Jakob in Defereggen (see pic), there is the Hohe Tauern National Park, characterised by a range of fascinating animals like golden eagles, black woodpeckers, chamois and marmots, mountain cocks and alpine mountain hare that have their natural habitat around St. Jakob.

Now we would like to present you particularly interesting destinations for your summer holidays and provide you a foretaste on the odour of alpine pastures, clear mountain air and warming sunrays that gently stroke your skin! In the surroundings there are about 300 km of hiking paths, the most popular of which are the the “Blumenweg Oberseite”, the Water Adventure Path and the educational trail “Innerstes Defereggental”. Another attraction is the Maria Hilfer waterfall at the beginning of the Staller gorge, which is one of the main natural spectacles in the Defereggental valley, featuring a hight of 40 meters. And if you would like to cross the borders, just make a short trip via Passo Stalle to picturesque Lake Anterselva in South Tyrol/Italy.

You plan your vacations in the Defereggental valley? You can really look forward to your holidays! The ski slopes are within easy reach, so to speak they start only one km from the village. And there are 27 km of ski slopes! The lift facilities take you in the skiing area Brunneralm on 2,370 m asl. Beside 25 km of winter hiking paths, the skiing area offers about 70 km of ski slopes…

Our tip: There is a real challenge for mountain bikers and that is cycling round the Rieserferner mountain range! This route is characterised by a lenght of 104 km and 888 m of altitude difference. The panoramic view will compensate the effort!
