Altitude: 1,235 m asl
Untertilliach, located between the pilgrimage site Maria Luggau (see pic) and Obertilliach close to the border of Carinthia and Italy, warmly welcomes you! The little centre of the village is characterised by a range of farmhouses and little chapels in the majestic mountains of East Tyrol.
Recreation in the heart of nature - this is what holidays in Untertiliach are about. The breathtaking mountains will be the centre of your summer holidays: Peaks like e.g. the Hochspitz, Eggenkofel (both 2,581 m asl) or Reiterkarspitze (2,422 m asl) offer perfect conditions for mountain tours. We hope you are free from giddiness, so that you can also enjoy the great panoramic view to the Lienz Dolomites! What is really popular with hikers are the Kircher alpine pastures, which can be reached within two hours from the centre of the village. The view down into the Lesachtal valley is a popular photo motif.
And in winter? Due to its high position, in the cold season the mountain village becomes a fairyland - snow flakes dance round the ancient farmhouses. The cross-country ski track, the so-called “Grenzlandloipe”, goes past the village and offers a range of possibilities to stop for a bite to eat. Did you know that a valid cross-country ski track card also enables you to take the ski shuttle service for free?
Our tip: Three taverns provide delicacies of the national as well as the regional cuisine. We highly recommend you the “Schlutzkrapfen”, which are kind of stuffed ravioli, or deer plates!
