Brandenberger Alps

The Brandenberger Alps, also called Rofan mountains, are a subgroup of the Northern Limestone Alps in the Eastern Alps.

The Brandenberger Alps extend in the province of Tyrol and are bounded by lake Achensee, the Inntal valley and the Bavarian pre-Alps. Often the Brandenberg Alps are referred to as Rofan mountains, even if this term only defines the mountains between Brandenberger Ache and lake Achensee. The Brandenberger Alps include the area from Kotalmjoch to the Rofanspitze peak.

The Brandenberg Alps (see pic) are bounded by the Bavarian pre-Alps in the north, the Kaiser mountain chain in the east, the Kitzbühel Alps in the south, the Tux Alps in the south-west and the Karwendel mountain chain in the west.

Peaks: Some of the most famous mountains are the Hochriss (2,299 m), Guffert (2,195 m), Rotspitz (2,067 m), Seekarlspitze (2, 261 m), Rofanspitze (2,259 m), Pendling (1,563 m), Schokoladetafel (2,165 m) and Vorderes Sonnwendjoch (2,224 m).

Hiking: Also this mountain chain offers a large number of possibilities regarding hikes and walks. One of them is the “Rofanrunde” with an overnight stay on the Erfurter refuge or the Dalfázalm refuge.
