Mill village Gschnitz

The living mill village in the Gschnitztal valley is a particular outdoor museum and an adventure for the whole family.

A journey in time, back about 100 years in history, can be made in the beautiful Gschnitztal valley, a side valley of the Wipptal valley. Starting from the huge parking space behind the tavern Gasthof Feuerstein (subject to fee), you can reach the mill village Gschnitz (Mühlendorf Gschnitz), a leisure facility that makes our grand-grandfathers come alive and exhibits corn mills, smithies, manufactures, mountain huts, washing mashines and bread baking ovens.

By the way, the adventure park has been established by using historic plans, ancient handicraft techniques, and original ancient wood and materials. Unique! Moreover a little museum provides interesting information as roundabout and in a mountain hut you can taste delicacies for your palate. For the little ones, there is an adventure playground with water games. Also exciting is the path to the Sandes waterfall and its 40 m long bridge over the gorge. The view from the bridge is particularly impressive. Also the power of water is more than impressive and absolutely necessary for the functioning of mills.

On special events, visitors can also experience how sheep are sheared, how a spinning wheel works and how bread is baked. A trip to the mill village can be combined with a hike to the Laponesalm pasture, located at 1,472 m asl at the head of the Gschnitztal valley. The pasture can be reached from the parking space in about one hour. This is where you can taste further delicacies, that the Tyrolean cuisine has to offer.
