The emperor Maximilan I let the Zeughaus built at the gates of the city of Innsbruck between 1500 and 1505. It consits of a two-wing building with narrow interconnecting sections, surrounding an inner courtyard. This is where once upon a time the artillery pieces and handguns were stored.
Further on, from 1964 to 1969, the building has been restaured and opened as Regional Museum. Today it is an outpost of the Tyrolean State Museum and features historical and technical collections. Also special exhibitions are organised in the Zeughaus museum. However, in summer the inner courtyard is venue for open-air cinema performances as well as concerts.
