The Ferdinandeum was founded in 1823 and is namded after archduke Ferdinand. This museum comprises seven collections. To clarify, also the “Museum im Zeughaus” and the scientific colletion belong to the Tyrolean provincial museum.
In the basement visitors are informed about prehistory, Roman Age and the Mediaeval age, while on the first floor the focus is set on Romantic period, Renaissance, the Netherlands collection and applied arts. One of the highlights is a small room with a Biedermeier collection. However, the second floor gives information about the Baroque epoque; Biedermeier period as well as the 19th century.
On of the main attractions from an architectural point of view is the “art-box”, venue for special exhibitions that are organised on a regular basis. The modern gallery is located on the third floor.
