At the Eisgrat mountain station on the Stubai Glacier, at impressive 3,000 m a.s.l., there is not only the highest located gourmet restaurant in the Alps, but also the Stubai Ice Grotto (Eisgrotte Stubai). It can be reached from the mountain station in 10 minutes on foot (during the skiing season a winter hiking path), and offers an impressive insight into the world of eternal ice.
On the 200 m long tour, which was arranged 30 metres below the ski slope, in summer glacier phenomena such as glacial milk, glacial moraines and the individual ice layers are explained. And if you want to feel like a snow king, you can sit on the ice throne and use the photo point.
By the way: The project was accompanied by the glaciologist Dr. Andrea Fischer from Innsbruck, to avoid any ecological disadvantages for the glacier. An information brochure guides you through the ice grotto and its stations. Have fun!
