MTB tour to the Malfon alpine pasture

At Pettneu am Arlberg the Malfontal valley branches off in southern direction to the Verwall Group: The MTB route no. 701 leads from Mt. Hoher Riffler to the meadows of the Rear Malfon Alp

This tour takes about 2 hours and manages 700 m of altitude difference, and is therefore ideal for a half day tour. Our starting point is the village of Pettneu am Arlberg. From the Stanzertal Arlberg Cycle Route, on the banks of the Rosanna river, the route begins by climbing over the Resia Meadow, and passes the car park at the entrance to the Malfon Valley. On the first section of the route no. 701, which is the forest road through the valley, the average gradient is more than 12%.

The mostly wild valley gets flatter at the Lower Malfon Alp (Untere Malfon Alpe, rest point). The gradient drops below 10% on the following 4 km long section to the Rear Malfon Alp (Hintere Malfon Alpe) - the landscape changes from wood to alpine meadows. At the end of the path there are two ponds, fed by the water of the Malfonbach stream. This is a special place, watching how Mt. Hoher Riffler and the Lechtal Alps reflect in the waters. The way back follows the same route.
