MTB tour through the Pinnistal valley

The mountain bike route no. 571 leads from Neder in the Stubaital valley via the Herzeben Hut and Issenanger Hut to the Pinnis Hut and Kar Hut at the foot of the cliffs of Mt. Habicht

At the village of Neder in the Stubaital valley, the Pinnistal valley branches off towards south. Soon the asphalt is replaced by gravel, and the alpine road gets a steep gradient of about 15% from km 1 to km 3. In the morning we cycle through the narrow valley gorge in the shadow of the Serleskamm summits. A first meadow clearing can be found at the Herzeben Mountain Hut and the immediately following Issenanger Mountain Hut, where the valley becomes flatter and a 3-km-long section with a significantly lower gradient (approx. 8%) follows.

Always accompanied by the rushing of the Pinnisbach stream, the view on the steep limestone cliffs is impressive, especially on the eastern side of the valley: Mt. Wasenwand, Mt. Hammerspitze, Mt. Kirchdachspitze and Mt. Ilmspitze follow each other here. Past the "Gespaltener Stein" (literally "split rock") we reach the Pinnis Mountain Hut at 1,560 m a.s.l. The path becomes a little steeper again, after another 1.5 km we reach the Kar Mountain Hut (1,753 m a.s.l.) at the end of the valley, where the MTB track and the road end. Green pastures are located here directly below the mighty 3,277 m high Habicht. The wild Pinnistal, formed by the forces of nature, offers a total of four places to stop for refreshments (Herzeben Alm, Issenanger Alm, Pinnisalm and Karalm).
