The Neualpl Lake District at 2,450 m asl is accessible from Mt Zettersfeld, the sunny area above Lienz.
At the foot of the Schleinitz, a 2,904 m high mountain of the Schober Group, the Neualpl Lakeland is located, two big and several smaller lakes in a typical basin. Among them there are Lake Nussdorf, which has a little island, and Lake Thurner with its rocky bank. The surrounding peaks are reflected in the clear waters, a real beautiful photo subject.
Besides the Neualpl Lake District (Neualplseen, in German), there are two more lakes in this region: Lake Alkuser in the north-west (2,432 m asl), one of the most beautiful lakes of the Schober Group, and Lake Trelebitsch at 2,336 m asl, a little mountain lake.
Starting at the Zettersfeld mountain station, the path proceeds in about 2 hours to the Neualpl Lakeland. Alternative, you can shorten the hike to half by taking the chair lift to the “Steinermandl” (2,214 m asl). The view is unforgettable, from the impressive Lienz Dolomites in the south to the mighty mountain chains of the Glockner Massif in the north.
Altitude: 2,450 m asl
