Description
For over 50 years, mountain enthusiasts have gathered regularly for the Silvretta-Ferwall March in Galtür. The event starts at 6:00 am in the village square, with four different routes to choose from.
Fit hikers can tackle the marathon route, which covers 42.2 kilometres and 1,779 metres of elevation gain, leading over the Zeinisjoch pass to the Heilbronner Hütte mountain hut and the Grieskogeljoch ridge at 2,696 metres. The Ferwall route is slightly shorter at 32.7 kilometres but still challenging, requiring participants to climb 1,498 metres of elevation to the Grieskogeljoch. The intermediate Silvretta route covers 19.2 kilometres and 618 metres of elevation gain to the Breitspitze peak, while families can enjoy a 14.5-kilometre circular walk around the Kops reservoir, at an altitude of up to 1,019 metres.
Seven refreshment stations along the trails help hikers keep their energy levels up. For younger walkers, there is a children's entertainment programme right at the festival ground and along the Silvretta family route at the Zeinisjoch. In the late afternoon, the award ceremony takes place, followed by a party in the festival tent.
