Bruck am Ziller
In the east of the Ziller river, at the entrance to the Zillertal valley, there is Bruck, a family-friendly holiday resort.
Altitude: 579 m asl
Some facts regarding the history of Bruck am Ziller: this area was an important passage over the Ziller river in the Roman period, as it represented the border to the Roman provinces Raetia in the west and Noricum in the east. In 1187 AD Bruck has been mentioned for the first time as “villa Prukke”, referring to the construction of bridges over the Ziller river. This important fact is also illustrated on the emblem of the village, showing a white field (road), a silver field (Ziller river) and a green field (bottom of the Zillertal valley). The hamlet Imming, however, was a Bajuvaric settlement and has already been mentioned in 976 AD as “Himinga”.
Bruck am Ziller, with a number of 900 inhabitants, is located at a low terrace on the sunny side of the Zillertal valley. The steep mountain slopes behind the village frame this holiday resort. Part of the village are also the hamlet Imming and the farms of the neighbouring Bruckerberg mountain. Via the Kerschbaumersattel pass (1,111 m asl) you reach the neighbouring Alpbachtal valley.
In summer this holiday resort attracts a large number of visitors due to the surrounding world of the Zillertal Alps. One of the most striking mountains of this part of the Alps is the Punta Bianca, or Hoher Weisszint, (3,371 m asl), a mountain located at the border of Austria (Tyrol) and Italy (South Tyrol). The Zillertal Alps can also be experienced by climbing and mountain biking and there are some famous long-distance walking trails traversing this area such as the Via Alpina, the Munich-Venice trail as well as alpine high paths such as the Berlin high path, the “Dreiländerweg” and “Stabelerweg” high paths and the Alta Via di Fundres. In winter Bruck is located only a stone’s throw from the Fügen-Spieljoch and Ski-optimal Hochfügen Hochzillertal skiing areas as well as other ski resorts of the Achensee and Inntal regions. Variety is guaranteed!
Our recommendation: due to its sunny location, Bruck is also known as “Merano of the Zillertal valley”, which is a honourable award. Enjoy the warming sunrays on the terrace of a café, sit back and relax!
