Trins

Due to the natural beauty of the landscape, Trins has also a role to play in several movies, e. g. “The last Valley”

Altitude: 1,242 m a.s.l.

Trins is located 30 km in the south of Innsbruck in the Gschnitztal, a tributary valley of the Wipptal, and is one of the only genuine and original villages left. The Rhaeto-Romance buildings form a scattered village. The municipality developed as mineworker settlement, and only after the mines were closed down in the 17th century, it took up agricultural activities.

If you are interested in culture, then you'll find some striking buildings in the surroundings of the village. One of them is Schneeberg Castle from the 18th century, which was built on a glacial moraine. Also the late Gothic parish church, already mentioned in 1359 AD, is worth a visit. Once upon a time, above the village there was a druidstone, which was taken away later as the Trins road was constructed. Another relic of ancient times is the mill at the Padasterbach river, which is still in operation: On a regular basis, the miller makes you experience original craftsmanship.

High above the village, surrounded by the intact nature of the Gschnitztal valley, the hiking paths take you to destinations such as the Padasterjoch Mountain Hut, an amazing viewpoint in the Stubai Alps, and the Sarnthein Waterfall: Reachable within half an hour only, this natural monument is located in striking position in the heart of a forest and is illuminated sometimes in summer. By the way: Trins has been chosen as scenery for several movies - also a scene of the famous Hollywood movie "The Bourne Supremacy" was shot at the head of the Gschnitztal valley.
