Tristach 2009

Tristach

The quiet holiday village Tristach is located at the homonymous lake, the only lake for bathing in East Tyrol.

Altitude: 670 m asl

Only 3 km in the south east of Lienz, there is Tristach, located at the foot of the majestic mountains of the Lienz Dolomites. The emblem of the village, which has already been inhabited in Bronze Age, depicts a lion with scythe on red background. No, there have never been lions in the area ;-) but the emblem is the one of the Lords of Erenberg, who have owned this castle already in the 13th century…

Those who seek relaxation and recreation are at the right place! About 90 km of hiking and walking paths are ready to be explored. One of the most popular hiking paths is the historic path, starting at the “Tristacher Tratte” where there is a wayside shrine, which has been built in 1636 AD as plague column. Right next to this column you can see a majestic linden tree that has been planted in 1879 AD on the occasion of the wedding of the Emperor Franz Josef I and the Empress Elizabeth. Would you like to explore the mountains, but you are not courageous enough? The alpine school takes remedial actions and shows you the mountains in summer in all their glory.

Winter in Tristach stands for skiing, ice skating and sledding. The skiing areas Zettersfeld and Hochstein are within easy reach and Lake Tristach transforms in winter into one huge ice rink. But better to ask first if the sheet of ice is thick enough! Another highlight is the Dolomite toboggan run, which features a lenght of about 7.5 km. And in case one year there should be no snow, this run in covered by artifical snow.

Our tip: Lake Tristach (see pic) is the destination number one! In the outdoor pool there is also a terrace café, a childrens’ playground and a beach volley field. And in July and August there is a free shuttle, connecting Lienz and Tristach!
