Leisach

Leisach represents the starting point of the Pustertal High Road, a panoramic road high above the valley basin

Altitude: 710 m a.s.l.

The idyllic village of Leisach extends on an alluvial fan in the direction of the Drau river. The municipal area includes the old Lienz Fortress in the valley basin, located along a former post road, and the hamlets Burgfrieden, Gries and Leisach-Dorf. The local mountain of Leisach is the 2,717 m high Spitzkofel, a peak that belongs to the northern part of the Lienz Dolomites.

The holiday resort attaches great importance to family-friendliness. The beautifully situated forest swimming pool with playground and shady trees is especially popular in summer. If you are looking for something more active, we recommend you a bike tour on the Drava Cycle Route which follows the course of the river, or a visit to the Climbing Park Galitzenklamm in the eponymous gorge which takes you in the tree tops. In winter, the natural toboggan run Lienzer Dolomiten, an ice skating ground and the ski lift of Leisach provide diversity regarding leisure time activities.

Also culture and tradition are of utmost importance to Leisach, several customs are still in use. It starts after New Year with the Epiphany singers going from house to house, and continues before Easter - more precisely on Palm Sunday - when green branches are tied to a palm stick and are brought to church to be consecrated. In the Advent period, however, the traditional "Turmbläser" play beautiful melodies and Christmas carols on their wind instruments.
