Lavant 2009

Lavant

Lavant is a holiday destination which is very popular with those who love to play golf.

Altitude: 675 m asl

In the Drautal valley, at the border to Carintha, there is the enchanting mountain village of Lavant, which is only 8 km from Lienz. This is where the inhabitants mainly work in the agricultural sector, and this is also where you can sit back and relax. Moreover, Lavant is considered to be steeped in history. The so-called “Lavanter Kirchbichl” hill is eternalised on the emblem of the village. It is a holy Tyrolean mountain and features sites of an excavation and a museum.

However, there is much to see in the village and surroundings and also those who are interested in culture will feel at ease. In the pilgrimage church Maria Lavant, dating back to 1770 AD, you can admire a statue of Virgin Mother (17th century) as well as ceiling frescoes. Another church worth to be visited is the church of St. Peter and Paulus, which has been inaugurated in 1485 AD. Beneath the apsis of the church, there is the basis of an ancient chapel. And within easy reach is also the site Aguntum, where you can even spend one whole day.

Those who love playing golf might already be familiar with Lavant, as it is directly located at the golf course “Golf & Resort Dolomitengolf” (see pic). A tee in the heart of a breathtaking mountain scenery must be captured on a picture, don’t you think so? However, in Lavant you can also find other possibilities for active holidays. The Drau cycle path directly leads past Lavant and of course Lavant is also a perfect starting point for hikes in the surroundings. And in case you are planning skiing holidays, there are the skiing areas Zettersfeld and Hochstein, which are only a stone’s throw away.

Our tip: In the village there are three restaurants, which offer a wide range of delicacies. Fresh products and Tyrolean receipts - a real treat!
