Dölsach 2009

Dölsach

Dölsach is located at the Roman archeological site Agentum.

Altitude: 738 m asl

Döslach and the localities Gödnach, Göriach, Görtschach and Stribach are located in the heart of the Lienz Dolomites and have been mentioned for the first time in 1197 AD. The name of the village derives from “dolice”, which means “little valley”. Celebrities from the village are for example the painters Franz Defregger (1835-1921) and Albin Egger-Lienz (1868-1926). By the way, a curiosity: Döslach features the highest post code of Austria, which is 9991!

Every year in August, Döslach warmly welcomes you at the popular “Bauerntage” (Farmers’ Days). In this festival visitors get an insight into farmers’ lives and get the opportunity to taste typical products of Döslach and surroundings. Yummy! Of course also traditional concerts take place. What is also unique about Döslach is its natural distillery, where you can taste different types of schnaps…

Both summer and winter sports freaks will be enthusiastic about Döslach. Walks in the surroundings are really popular thanks to the splendid panorama of the Dolomites and the Hohe Tauern mountains. Numerous park benches in and around Döslach invite you to make a stop. And if it is too hot in the valley, there is a hiking path leading you to the Anna refuge on 1,992 m asl, this is where one of the most beautiful summit crosses expects you! Moreover you can enjoy a splendid view on 66 churches in three valleys. In winter, however, there is the Gödnach toboggan run, which is very popular.

Our tip: At the archeological site Aguntum (see pic) you can see the ruins of the city wall, an atrium house, a thermal bath and a trade quarter. Numerous findings are exhibited in the archeological excavation site, which is open from April to October.
