Weissenbach am Lech
The holiday resort of Weissenbach is located at the junction of the Lechtal and Tannheimer valleys.

The municipality of Weissenbach am Lech is located at the foot of the 1,093 m high Gaichtpass, connecting Nesselwängle and Weissenbach. In Middle ages this pass was also used as salt road from Hall in Tirol to the Tannheimer valley. In 1200 AD Weissenbach has been mentioned for the first time, but a Roman grave find testifies the much earlier settlement of this area as well as the fact that this village is located along the former Via Decia. By the way, at the Gaichtpass there is the only minable gesso deposit of Tyrol!
Weissenbach, a nature park village, is a perfect place for recreation. The leisure time offer includes pleasant trails in the valley basin or along the Lech river, across a landscape that really deserves to be protected and which for this reason belongs to the Tiroler Lech Nature Park, as well as climbing routes on the surrounding summits. Also horse-riding, fishing and swimming in the outdoor pool are rather popular. In winter a toboggan run takes you from the old Gaichtpass down into the valley, which occasionally is also illuminated. Also the exercising course for sledge dogs make Weissenbach a special holiday resort. This circular route is 7 km long and takes past the Baggersee pond and the protected Lechau meadows. Watching only is a great experience! A variety of cross-country ski tails are also available, and those who prefer skiing and snowboarding will feel at ease in the Hahnenkamm skiing area (15 km of ski runs), reachable via the Reuttner Bergbahnen gondolas.
Are you interested in arts and culture? The Lourdes Chapel and the parish church, dedicated to St. Sebastian, are worth to be visited. And a forest educational trail takes you to the Mariahilf pilgrimage chapel and provides useful information about life in the forest as well as bushes and trees. Also the road via the old Gaichtpass is worth to be travelled, as it is of great historic importance. Built at the beginning of the 16th century, is was used for the transport of salt from Hall in Tirol to the Tannheimer valley and Bregenz in the area of Lake Constance.
