Vorderhornbach Winter 2011

Vorderhornbach

Vorderhornbach is located in the anterior part of the Hornbachtal valley, branching off from the Lechtal valley.

Altitude: 974 m asl

The Hornbachtal valley is the only settled side valley of the Allgäu Alps and branches off from the Lechtal valley. In 1218 AD Vorderhornbach has been mentioned for the first time and is today a calm holiday resort with 300 inhabitants. The emblem of the village shows a black horn and a blue surface, symbolizing the river, which refers to the name of the village (”Horn” means “horn” and “Bach” means “river” in German).

Vorderhornbach is surrounded by the unique mountains of the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps, offering a wide range of possibilities regarding climbing routes and hiking trails. Popular routes take you on the Hochvogel mountain (2,592 m asl), the Höllhörner peaks (2,140 m and 2,150 m asl) or the Hornbachkette, a 15 km long mountain chain in the Allgäu Alps. Moreover this area is part of the Tiroler Lech Nature Park, which is also a “Natura 2000″ area, deserving particular protection. Rare plant and animal species populate this nature reserve along the wild Lech river. And a 17 m high bird watching tower in the nature park makes you observe various bird species in their natural habitat.

Recently the nature adventure pool Lechtal has been inaugurated in the areal of the former pool of Vorderhornbach. It is literally a natural adventure, as this facility has been established with natural building materials. Moreover water is purified naturally by filters and plants. The facility includes a huge lake for swimming and lawns as well as a rock springboard, a little river for kids and a liana. The access to the swimming pool is wheelchair-friendly and a beach volley field, a football field and a children’s playground as well as a restaurant with sun terrace complete the offer. Great: the location of the nature adventure pool along the Lechtal cycling path makes you reach this leisure time facility by bike before jumping into the refreshing waters! In winter the pond transforms into an ice skating ground, and next to it there is an illuminated cross-country ski track. However, nobody is going to freeze, thanks to hot beverages such as mulled-wine! If you prefer skiing, there is an exercising lift facility at Vorderhornbach.

Our recommendation: we recommend you a hike to the Peterbergalm pasture with a great Tyrolean snack including a mug of beer. This easy and impressive trail starts in the neighbouring Hinterhornbach (6 km from the village)…
