Lechaschau

In Lechaschau starts the Ranzental Vils Cycle Route, which leads to the small town of Vils on the border to the Bavarian Allgäu

Altitude: 846 m a.s.l.

The nature park village Lechaschau is located in the valley basin of Reutte on the left riverside of the Lech. First it was simply called "Lech", a term that was changed into Lechaschau in 1888 in order to avoid confusions with the village of Lech in Vorarlberg. The construction of the bridge taking to Reutte, which was used for centuries for the salt transport in the Tannheimer Valley, marked the beginning of an economic boost of the village. At this bridge, the centre of the village emerged and it started spreading in a stellar manner, which can perfectly been seen from the air.

The area round Lechaschau has several sights and places of interest to offer, such as the "Sankt-Mangus-Sessele", an early Christian, pagan sacrificial altar. According to legend, St. Magnus of Füssen recovered here in a rock niche during his missionary journey. Beautiful hiking destinations, however, are Lake Frauensee at the eastern foot of Mt. Gehrenspitze (2,367 m a.s.l.) - a popular bathing lake, also if the water temperature reaches only 19 degrees C - and the Lech river itself.

This wild river with its rare flora and fauna is part of the Tiroler Lech Nature Park. Already the Celts called it "Licca", the "fast flowing". In terms of current velocity nothing has changed, which results in the river to be perfect terrain for those who love rafting and canyoning. In winter, the nearby Reuttener Bergbahnen lift facilities take you into the skiing area on Mt. Hahnenkamm.
