Lähn-Wengle

The localities of Lähn and Wengle, located next to each other, have a long history and are part of the municipality of Bichlbach

Altitude: 1,100 m a.s.l.

Lähn and Wengle are two small and charming villages that together with Bichlbach form the eponymous municipality. When in the 15th century the hamlet Mittewald was destroyed by an avalanche, it was rebuilt somewhere else and named Lähn, which means avalanche. However, also that settlement was buried by an avalanche in 1689. Up to the 19th century, Lähn represented the border of the dioces of Augsburg and Bressanone in today's Italy.

The hamlets are both popular holiday resorts, located in the area of the Lechtal Alps and mighty Mt. Zugspitze. Along the hiking trails there are several mountain huts offering traditional Tyrolean delicacies, including Schlutzkrapfen - semi-circular stuffed pasta with a filling of spinach and ricotta - and Bauerngröstl, a hearty farmer's dish made of potatoes and minced beef. If you prefer the bicycle, then the Zwischentoren Loisachtal Cycle Route shows you the beauty of the region.

Also hang-gliders and cross-country skiers often choose Lähn-Wengle as holiday resort: While the Brändle cross-country ski trail is perfect for beginners, the 6 km long Platten-Panorama Track is longer and more challenging. Skiers and snowboarders, however, can enter via the nearby Berwang-Bichlbach Ski Arena the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena Ski Region around the northernmost glacier of the Alps. On top of Mt. Zugspitze you can also visit the Zugspitz Adventure Museum.
