Lähn-Wengle

The localities of Lähn and Wengle, located next to each other, are part of the municipality of Bichlbach.

Altitude: 1,100 m asl

Lähn and Wengle are two little villages that together with Bichlbach form the homonymous municipality. When in the 15th century the hamlet Mittewald was destroyed by an avalanche, it was rebuilt somewhere else. This place was named Lähn, which means avalanche. However, also this settlement was destroyed by an avalanche in 1689. Up to the 19th century Lähn represented the border of the dioces of Augsburg and Brixen/Bressanone.

Today the hamlets are both popular holiday resorts, located in the area of the Lechtal Alps and the famous Zugspitze mountain that is 2,962 m high. Numerous hiking, climbing and MTB trails carry you off into the fabulous landscape and along the paths there are several mountain huts offering traditional Tyrolean delicacies. That sounds like holidays, doesn’t it? By the way, at the top of the Zugspitze mountain, there is a museum offering an adventurous world. The exhibition in the museum is split up into four sections, focusing on the “Conquest of the Zugspitze”, “Prospects”, “Sensuous visions” and “Farewell to the mountain”. The lift ticket includes the entrance to the museum which is a real must. And it might be implied that you have to enjoy the view!

Also hang-gliders and cross-country skiers often choose Lähn-Wengle as holiday resort. While the Brändleloipe cross-country ski trail with a lenght of 2.5 km is perfect for beginners, the panoramic trail extending on a lenght of 14.5 km is ideal for skilled cross-country skiers. Skiers and snowboarders, however, can choose from several skiing areas: the skiing area Berwangertal connects the villages of Bichlbach, Berwang and Rinnen and offers 36 km of ski slopes. Additionally it is connected to the ski region Tiroler Zugspitz Arena and for this reason able to satisfy all your needs. Six further skiing areas are part of this carousel, including some 152 km of slopes. By the way, also aprés ski is a real must-do in your holidays!

Our recommendation: the vast network of winter hiking trails make you experience the snow-covered landscape on foot. The calm nature conveys makes magic when seeking relaxation and recreation…
