Ehenbichl

The largest historical event of Europe, the “Ritterspiele Ehrenberg”, takes place every year at the Ehrenberg Castle Ensemble

Altitude: 862 m a.s.l.

Ehenbichl, part of the nature park region of Reutte, is separated from Reutte only by the Sintwag hill. Its name reminds on the Court of Ehrenberg, as "Ehe" stands for rights and "Bichl" means "little hill". In the upstream located locality of Rieden there are several mansions, pointing to the fact that Ehenbichl used to be the summer residence of German aristocrats in the 19th century.

Over the Lech river, representing the natural border of Ehenbichl, there was a bridge, which is subject of a fresco painted on a façade in the village. That bridge, the oldest way across the river, connected Ehenbichl and the neighbouring village of Höfen. Today, however, a footpath between the two municipalities leads straight to the Reuttener Bergbahnen lift facilities, which take you into the hiking and skiing area on Mt. Hahnenkamm.

Ehenbichl is located also at the foot of the Ehrenberg Ruin, which houses the Ehrenberg Castle Ensemble. An adventure museum and a natural exhibition are part of the offer. For some years now, the ruin has been connected to Fort Claudia by the second longest swing pedestrian bridge of the world: This "highline179" stays open all year round - an exciting adventure!
