Breitenwang

Lake Plansee is located partly in Breitenwang und represents the no. 1 excursion destination during the summer months

Altitude: 854 m a.s.l.

Breitenwang is located in the valley basin of Reutte. Lähn and Plansee are two of the five component localities, as parts of Lake Plansee belong to Breitenwang, while the rest is part of the municipal area of Heiterwang. In former times, the village was known as "Breitinwanc", which means "wide meadow". When Lothair III, Holy Roman Emperor, died in a local farm passing through Breitenwang in 1137 AD, not only the year but also the village went down in history...

The Church of Sts. Peter and Paul is a real jewel: The ceiling fresco from 1755 illustrates the key delivery to St. Peter and was realised by the Tyrolean artist Johann Jakob Zeiler (1708 - 1783). The Resurrection Chapel is decorated by stucco medallions, representing the dance of the death. Of particular interest are also the Emperor's Fountain, and the four chapels of Breitenwang: the Frauenbrünnl Chapel, the St. Anthony Chapel, the Koloman Chapel and the Auxilary Saints Chapel.

Breitenwang is located in the nature park region of Reutte, the "Gate to Tyrol". Lake Plansee, including a surface of 280 hectares, is the second largest lake of Tyrol after Lake Achensee. It is a perfect terrain for divers, as the good water quality of level I enables a visibility of up to 15 m. In the surroundings, you can relax during a jogging round, a hike, a bike trip or a Nordic Walking tour.
