In the upper Lechtal valley there is the village of Bach and the Madauer Gorge, accessible on the Madauer High Route

Bach in the Lechtal valley was mentioned already in 1427 AD. In former times, numerous inhabitants were forced to move abroad to do seasonal works due to their meagre revenues, a fact that is remembered on the beautiful frescoes on the façades of the buildings. Illustrious sons of Bach are the sculptor Josef Alois Knittel born in 1814, and Anselm Klotz, who first scaled the 2,884 m high Freispitze, and in 1875 also Mt. Parseierspitze from the Lechtal side.
Bach, the small holiday village along the Alperschonbach river, is an ideal starting point for tours in the Lechtal Alps. Particularly popular are the unoccupied Madautal valley and the Sulztal valley. Furthermore, the Lechtal lift facilities take you to the 2,226 m high Jöchelspitze, where paths such as the Botanic Educational Trail start. It is located in the Tiroler Lech Nature Park and leads from the mountain station to the Bernhardseck Hut. Due to the spacious meadows for landing as well as the beneficial thermic conditions, Mt. Jöchelspitze is also an insiders' tip for paragliders.
Village fairs and concerts of the local band provide for a cheerful atmosphere in summer. Furthermore, two churches and two chapels await visitors that are interested in culture. And when the sun shines on the village, Bach really represents an exemplary and fairytale mountain village! In winter, the Jöchelspitze Skiing Area high above the village opens its doors. The view from the top on the summits of the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps is simply breathtaking.
