Kelchsau

Kelchsau in the Kitzbühel Alps is a paradise for those who seek relaxation and calm.

Altitude: 820 m asl

The popular holiday resort Kelchsau is part of the municipality of Hopfgarten im Brixental and is located in the area of the Hohe Salve. This 1,829 m high mountain in the east of Kelchsau is not only the local mountain of the surrounding villages, but also a popular destination for hikers. By the way: Did you know that this is a place where you can also get married? Surrounded by meadows covered with flowers and grazing cows you can marry in the Salvenkirchlein chapel, one of the highest located churches of Austria. Of course unforgettable!

Hikers, cyclists and mountainbikers feel at east here in summer, as Kelchsau offers a vast network of trails for outdoor activities. In the centre of the village, there are also some tennis courts. If you sojourn at Kelchsau together with your family, your kids will look forward to the Salvenaland, a leisure time park with lake for bathing in the 5 km distant Hopfgarten im Brixental. A further highlight is the so called “Giselabahn”, a nostalgic train that runs at certain dates in summer from Hopfgarten to Zell am See. In the lounge car, there is a bar, a buffet and the original post room where you can also get the special postmark.

Those who love ski touring and skiing, seeking calm and relaxation, are at the right place at Kelchsau (see pic). In winter, there is a skiing area offering 16 km of ski slopes as well as four lift facilities, a real treasure! Also a racing slope is available which makes you improve your skiing skills. Beside this small but mighty skiing area, there is the SkiWorld Wilder Kaiser-Brixental valley, offering 300 km of ski slopes. So if you need a change, there you go!

Our tip: The Niederkaseralm alpine pasture at Kelchsau is a traditional cheese dairy which can also be visited. Some 90 milk cows are living at this alpine pasture, offering a breathtaking view on the mountains of the Kitzbühel Alps.
