On the sunny side of the Inn, at the riverbank opposite Kundl, there is the municipality of Breitenbach, including Dorf, Kleinsöll, Schönau, Glatzham and Haus. Extending on an area of 38 sqkm, it is the largest municipality of Kufstein in terms of surface.
In former times the village gained in importance due to shipping on the Inn river, as names such as “Schopperwirt” (”Schopper” means ship builder) reveal. The emblem of the municipality depicts the name- giving Breitenbach river, as well as a fish, pointing at its richness in fish. Culture and tradition are still cared for by local associations resulting in Breitenbach having been awarded as “European Municipality”. A popular attraction is the puppet museum with petting zoo, located on the way to the natural reserve “Berglstein” at the Asperhof farm. This museum hosts a comprehensive collection of restored puppets and toys. A tavern offering local products provides for creature comforts after a visit…
If you would like to enjoy the view on the Inntal valley, we recommend you to hike to the local mountain, which is the “Plessinger”. For those who prefer it more pleasant, there is for example beautiful Lake Berglsteinersee. Also the winter hiking trails in the surroundings are particularly popular, and the village also offers two cross-country ski trails connected to the trails of Angerberg-Mariastein. One of these trails has been awarded with a cross-country skiing quality seal.
Our recommendation: we warmly recommend you to visit the S. Petrus parish church, which is one of the oldest churches of the Tiroler Unterland area!
