In 1240 AD Alpbach (see pic) has been mentioned for the first time in documents and still today its Tyrolean charm survived. Not only because until the 1920s this village was not connected to the Inntal valley, but also due to building regulations which stipulated constructions in wooden style. This method turned to account, as Alpbach has been declared the “most beautiful village of Austria” as well as the “most beautiful flower village”. Moreover it was setting for the well-known TV series “Wildbach”.
Another event, however, made Alpbach famous far beyond borders, which is the “European Forum Alpbach”, to which numerous personalities of distinction of politics, culture, economy and science are invited and also Nobel Prize laureates take part in this event. Worth to be visited is the Congress centre of Alpbach which has largely been integrated into a slope, as well as the Vorderunterberg farm offering a mountain farmers’ museum.
In summer this village is an ideal place for those who seek relaxation, not only due to the numerous trails in the surrounings and its beautiful mountains. If you plan family vacations we also recommend you to visit the adventure playground “Lauserland” located at the mountain station of the Wiedersbergerhornbahn funicular. Moreover there are special weeks for kids with entertainment programme. However, skiing at Alpbach stands for skiing an a prizewinning skiing area: “The Good Skiing and Snowboarding Guide” bestowed the skiing area a “White Oscar” for the best “small but mightly” skiing area of the year. If you prefer staying down in the valley, there are 20 km of cross-country ski slopes…
