St. Ulrich am Pillersee

In St. Ulrich there is the worldwide oldest pine oil distillery, which has been producing essential oils for more than 100 years

Altitude: 835 m a.s.l.

The village St. Ulrich am Pillersee, known as "Nuarach" in local dialect, is located in the Pillersee Valley in the north-east of Tyrol, at the border to Salzburg and Bavaria. Already in the 10th century, the Baiuvarii settled the area - in the 12th century followed the Benedictine Monks of the Rott am Inn Monastery. The lovely little place is named after St. Ulrich, Prince-Bishopric of Augsburg.

Today, St. Ulrich am Pillersee is a popular holiday destination. Especially Lake Pillersee attracts visitors from near and afar: It is a natural bathing area with a high rope course on its shores. This facility, called Hochseilgarten Pillersee, was situated in Fieberbrunn, and has been reconstructed and inaugurated right here in 2021. Beautiful trails await you around the lake, which are connected to the trail network of the Pillersee Valley, taking you up to 2,500 m a.s.l.

If you love great panoramic viewpoints, we particularly recommend you the walkable viewpoint at the summit of Mt. Steinplatte: It has got the form of a coral and has been established above the yawning abyss. In winter, here there's the Steinplatte Skiing Area, one of the three skiing areas of the valley. The other ones are the Buchsteinwand Skiing Area in St. Ulrich am Pillersee and the Fieberbrunn Skiing Area. The first two are united in the 3 Country Leisure Arena, FIeberbrunn, however, is connected with the large ski resort Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn.
