Oberndorf in Tirol

The village of Oberndorf in Tirol is a real paradise for families.

Altitude: 687 m asl

The emblem of the village illustrates a golden pick on black background and a deep red shaft - this reminds on times when in Oberndorf in Tirol mining was still an important sector. Up to the 18th century at the Rerobichl hill copper was won and still today stone processing is an important sector in the village. Today at the Müllnerhof farm in Oberndorf, there is the largest wooden fountain of the world, made of a 360-year old fir tree!

However, Oberndorf in Tirol (see pic) is located in idyllic position in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps and thus in summer mountains are at the centre of attention. Numerous hiking trails snake its way on the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain which is 1,996 m high. Once reached your hiking destinations, you are rewarded by a stunning 360° view on the Wilder Kaiser and the Hahnenkamm mountain and on the Hohe Tauern and the Karwendel mountain range. Solely the name of the mountain “Wilder Kaiser”, which literally can be translated as “Wild Emperor”, is impressive. And another emperor is at home in Oberndorf: Franz Beckenbauer, who is also called “the emperor of soccer”, has been living in this village since 1982.

In winter the northern side of the Kitzbüheler Horn attracts a large number of people who love skiing, as there are 60 km of well groomed slopes. This skiing area is also a paradise for snowboarders and has been declared to be one of the greatest snowboard areas in North Tyrol. In the valley, however, there are 25 km of cross-country ski tracks, that are connected to a regional network of 275 km, as well as an illuminated natural track and horse-drawn carriages. Boredom, ehm, what’s that?!

Our tip: The “Bichlachbad” invites you to swim and relax on a green including 13,000 sqm. This facility is also perfectly suitable for families, as it features a 55 m long water slide, water-spitting crocodiles, playgrounds for children and many more attractions.
