Hochfilzen, one of the five municipalities of the PillerseeTal, is located at the Griessen Pass (970 m a.s.l.) at the border to Salzburg and the Bavaria. The economic upturn of the village started in 1957, when a magnesite plant was established, which still today lifts this mineral.

The village is embedded into the Leoganger Steinberge and Loferer Steinberge mountain chains and the Kitzbühel Alps. No matter if you prefer hiking, cycling, Nordic Walking or simpy enjoying nature: The vast network of routes is is more than impressive! Hundreds of km lead across the mountain world, and take you to places such as the nature reserve and bird sanctuary Griessner Hochmoor, the Griessner Almen alpine pastures, and the 1,456 m high Buchensteinwand, a magnificent viewpoint, which turns into a skiing area in winter.

However, the village also boasts some sights, such as the Baroque Our Lady of the Snows Pilgrimage Church. In winter, Hochfilzen is reigned by cross-country skiers and biathletes. The Biathlon World Cup has transformed Hochfilzen into a real biathlon stronghold. Its facilities and the respective offer are more than remarkable and include the training and competition centre with professional shooting range, indoor shooting range, and asphalted tracks for roller skiing.
