Ellmau 2009

Ellmau

Ellmau has been setting for the German TV serial “Der Bergdoktor”.

Altitude: 820 m asl

Ellmau (see pic) enchants you with its Tyrolean charm and an impressive mountain panorama at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range. This special charm hasn’t been undetected for a long time. That’s why beside other TV projects also the German serial “Der Bergdoktor” (The Mountain Doctor) was shot in Ellmau. Also from a musical point of view, Ellmau is a popular venue, as every year in autumn a popular folk music event takes place in the village. Also celebrities like Hansi Hinterseer, the Hofmann siblings or Claudia Jung take part in this event…

The holiday village is dominated by the Ellmauer Halt mountain (2,344 m asl), which is the highest summit of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range. Of course this facts reveals that hiking in the surroundings is a great pleasure, no matter if you prefer comfortable walks to the mountain huts or challening hikes directly on the Ellmauer Halt. From the Gruttenhütte hut above the Wochenbrunner alpine pasture you can directly hike to the Ellmauer Halt, but this is a hike which is only recommendable for experienced alpinists. Other popular destinations in Ellmau and surroundings are the 27-hole golf course “Wilder Kaiser” as well as the “Ellmauer Kaiserbad”. Not without good reason, as this facility offers sauna, a large number of water slides, adventure indoor pool with jet stream canal that leads into the heated outdoor pool, a tennis court, squash, climbing wall, a separate naturist zone as well as a restaurant.

Also winter has got much to offer, for example in the ski world Wilder Kaiser-Brixental valley, which is the largest connected skiing area of Austria, featuring about 250 km of ski slopes. However, not only skiing is possible… have you ever heard of snow-tubing? Comfortably uphill on the longest roofed conveyor belt, and dynamically down on a huge tube. What is also recommendable is a ride with a husky sleigh in neighbouring Söll - and you can even steer this sleigh yourself! In addition you can have a cup of hot punch.

Our tip: The St. Michael parish church is worth to be visited due to the Baroque high altar, the archangel Michael and the Anna chapel!
