Wildermieming

The charming chapel at the Locherboden is considered to be equally popular for weddings as the famous “Wedding Chapels”

Altitude: 872 m a.s.l.

You may know the municipality of Wildermieming, located in the eastern Mieminger Plateau, from the TV series "The Mountain Doctor", where it represents the fictional village "Sonnenstein". Still today, the setting, located only a 5-minute walk from the village, is a popular excursion destination. Klamm Castle at Mieming, however, used to be called "Sonnenstein Castle" in this TV series.

The name of the hamlet Affenhausen derives from St. Afra, who is the patron saint of carters. The golden mountain pine branch illustrated on the coat of arms of the village, however, pays tribute to the mountain pine as protection against debris flows. The above mentioned "Mountain Doctor", Bergdoktor in German, is present everywhere: The "Bergdoktor-Wanderweg" trail takes you across the sunny plateau, and the "Bergdoktor-Radweg" cycle path leads past Lake Mieming.

The hiking trails take you into the beautiful Mieming Plateau Alpine Park, which is an evironment protection project with five interesting theme trails. Among them there are the "Mooswiesenweg", which makes you familiar with low moors and wet meadows with their insects and orchids, and the Path of the Extremes, showing the impact of dry and hot climate at the southern limestone slopes of Mt. Fiechter Köpfl. In the cold season of the year, Wildermieming awaits you with an ice skating rink, two cross-country ski tracks and two training tracks, and winter hiking paths.
