Unterperfuss is located in the Inntal valley, about 15 km in the west of Innsbruck. Both in terms of surface area and inhabitants, Unterperfuss is considered to be one of the smallest municipalities of Tyrol. The surroundings of the village are mainly rural with acres and meadows. The emblem of the municipality illustrates a blue swell as a symbol for the Inn river, as well as a red waterwheel. The latter refers to the patron saint of the village, Saint Catherine.
Unterperfuss is a great starting point for hikes and MTB tours. The lift facilities of the hiking area Rangger Köpfl are located only 2 km from the village. This hiking area makes you experience the world of mountains in North Tyrol and is also well-known for its panoramic viewpoint Stiglreith and its panoramic restaurant with children’s playground. Numerous trails for hikers start at this restaurant, too. Also the Way of St. James crosses the municipal territory and is suitable for an enjoyable promenade. Along this path you can admire a sundial, a chapel as well as a cistern dating back to the Middle Ages. There is another famous path snaking in the surroundings of the village: the Inntal cycle path is also suitable for a family trip, as it features hardly any drops. As far as leisure time facilities are concerned, there are several riding stables in the village, such as the “Reiterhof Penz”, which is often venue for important horse riding events.
In winter, however, the neighbouring Rangger Köpfl mountain transforms into a popular skiing area with toboggan run. Further skiing areas that are easily accessible in the surroundings are the Axamer Lizum, Seefeld and the Sellraintal valley with Kühtai, the highest located winter sports resort of Austria. By the way, the seasonal ticket “Tirol Snow Card”, which is available at most of the lift facilities, makes you access a considerable number of 80 skiing areas, including the above mentioned skiing areas Axamer Lizum, Kühtai, Rangger Köpfl as well as the Bergbahnen Rosshütte at Seefeld. In other words, a total of 900 lift facilities and more than 3,000 km of ski runs are available… you will be spoilt for choice!
Our recommendation: a sight that is worth to be visited is the parish church, consecrated to Saint Catherine in 1648, in the course of time it was constructed in Baroque style. Particularly striking are the round-arched windows, the bulbous spire, the Rokoko stucco works decoration in the entire interior of the church and the vault paintings by Anton Kirchebner dating back to the year 1761.
