Altitude: 909 m a.s.l.

Sellrain is the main village of the eponymous valley: The Sellraintal is a tributary valley of the Inn Valley at the foot of Mt. Windegg in the northern Stubai Alps. Nine hamlets form the municipal area, one of which is Sellrain along the state road, Sonnenberg at the slope, and the Fotschertal valley branching off at Sellrain. Already in Stone Age, the valley was a popular hunting area.

In the course of time, the village was established round the mineral spring of Rothenbrunn, which was already known in Mediaeval times. The water containing iron attracted people from all over. Today, there are several buildings that are worth to be visited, such as the St. Quirinus Pilgrimage Church, which is the oldest church of the municipality and the entire valley. It can be seen from afar and is located at the scarp, inhabitants use to call it "Sankt Krein". The Late Gothic wall paintings and wood-carved figurines date back to the time between 1400 and 1500 AD.

The Fotschertal valley is part of the municipal area and is accessible up to the Potsdam Mountain Hut via a small road. The well-marked trails take you to the surrounding pastures, along mountain streams, grazing cows and alpine roses, up to summits such as the Schaflegerkogel, Fotscher Windegg and Roter Kogel. For climbing, however, the peaks of Mt. Hohe Villerspitze and Mt. Lüsner Villerspitze, both more than 3,000 m high, are well-liked. In winter, the Fotschertal valley is famous for its toboggan run Bergheim and the unforgettable ski tours it offers.
