Oberhofen im Inntal

The museum of Oberhofen im Inntal exhibits remnants of the past and the historical fire engine of the municipality

Altitude: 622 m a.s.l.

Oberhofen im Inntal is located, as the name of the village reveals, on the southern side of the Inn Valley and represents one of the holiday villages around Innsbruck. Only in 1786, the village became autonomous, when it was separated from Pfaffenhofen. Its history is closely linked to the Bavarian village of Schlehdorf, whose cloisters received properties in Oberhofen in the 8th century. The great mountains of North Tyrol invite you here to extended hikes and mountain bike tours.

Popular destinations are - among others - the 2,884 m high Rietzer Griesskogel and the Oberhofer Melkalm Mountain Hut, which can be reached in a 3-hour hike: This trail starts in the village and takes you to the Kohler Chapel and across the Flaurling Valley to the Flaurling Alpine Pasture. Then the hike continues to the Oberhofer Galtalm - a managed hut - and finally to the Oberhofer Melkalm Mountain Hut at 1,700 m a.s.l. which is open from May to the first autumn frosts.

However, the small but mighty holiday resort was able to preserve its rural character. This is particularly noticeable at the northern edge of the village, where ancient farms are placed next to each other along the riverbank of the Inn. The Baroque parish church is dedicated to Saint Nicolas and dates back to the 18th century. Particularly striking are the stucco works in the interior. Moreover you should visit the Local Museum of Oberhofen im Inntal: Ancient documents, essential household items and agricultural tools provide an insight into the long history of the village.
