Inzing

The Rangger Köpfl, a hiking and skiing area, and Mt. Zirler Berg characterise Inzing, famous for its Christmas cribs

Altitude: 616 m a.s.l.

Inzing is located at the foot of Mt. Rangger Köpfl and of the so-called Zirler Berg, at the south riverbank of the Inn in the Inn Valley. The municipality consists of several hamlets at the slopes of the Inzingerberg mountain. The above mentioned Rangger Köpfl is a popular hiking and skiing area with 17 km of slopes, a night run and a 10 km long toboggan run.

Popular destinations for hikes are the Inzing Mountain Hut, the bird reserve Gaisau, and the Inzing Theme Trail, leading across the forest and hamlets in the surroundings. Several information panels provide information on various pecularities of this area. Moreover, the Inn Cycle Route - Tiroler Oberland from the Engadine to Innsbruck snakes along the bottom of the valley, boasting hardly any drops. The local outdoor pool offers refreshment in summer. In the village there are also several choirs, theatre groups and the local band, which invite to concerts and theatre evenings.

Already Johann Wolfgang von Goethe mentioned Inzing in his masterpiece "Italienische Reisen", a travel report of his stays in Italy. Worth seeing are the so-called "Schlössl", a tower built by the Knight of Eben, and the parish church with its late Baroque frescoes. Inzing is called "Crib Village", as it has been an important centre of oriental nativity-scene making since the 17th century.
