Weerberg

Weerberg is a charming recreation village, located in the Unterinntal valley.

Weerberg is located on a low mountain range terrace on the southern side of the Inntal valley. The component localities Ausserweerberg, Mitterweerberg and Innerweerberg make up the municipal area. Due to its position at almost 900 m asl at the foot of the 2,506 m high Gilfert mountain, you cannot only enjoy a fabulous view on the Unterinntal valley, often also to Innsbruck, but as this area is rather calm it is also a perfect place for those who seek relaxation and recreation. Lush meadows, the surrounding mountains and the crystal clear mountain air also pull their weights…

The Museum of Local History in the Rablhaus building is one of the main excursion destinations in the municipality. This sacristan’s building dating back to the 16th century has been tastefully renovated and provides an interesting insight into farmers’ life of former times. Equally worth to be visited are the two churches of Weerberg, the ancient St. Peter church and the new Maria Empfängnis (Immaculate Conception) church. The former has been constructed in the 13th century and renovated as well as extended in 1749 AD. Also a St. Petrus key depicting the emblem of the village reminds on the former parish church, being enthroned on a hilltop and offering a great panoramic view on the Inntal valley. The new twin-towered parish church, however, has been established in the 19th century in new-Roman Basilica style.

The well-marked hiking and mountain-bike trails offer ideal conditions for experiencing the mountains in the surroundings. Particularly popular with mountain bikers is the course from Pill to Weerberg and from this place to the Weidener refuge above the village. For those who love skiing, there are the Hüttegglift and the Schwannerlift lift facilities, cosy little ski runs far away from hustle and bustle of larger ski resorts. Other popular activities are cross-country skiing, ski touring and snowshoeing. And of course you have to taste a delicious mulled wine or a hot tea afterwards.

Our recommendation: in the Rablhaus building, hosting also the Museum of Local History, there are often home concert afternoons with farmers’ markets. An absolute must-see!
