Try it and have fun: Skygliding, Airrofan
Altitude: 950 m asl
Maurach is dominated by water. Together with Eben, Buchau and the hotel settlement Pertisau it is located at the lakeside of beautiful Lake Achensee. In every season the lake is a popular destination and perfectly suitable to excert water sports. Lake Achensee is also popular for the Achensee shipping, that has already existed in 1887 AD. However, those who cannot yet swim, in the Buchau beach the water is shallow and perfectly suitable for beginners.
No matter if land, lake or mountain, Maurach offers innumerable possibilities to be active. The Rofan funicular for example takes hikers on 1,840 m asl, a great starting point for hikes. Enjoy the great view on the lake at your feet. In winter skiing conditions in the skiing region Rofan are perfect: 14 km of ski slopes for skiers, 10 km of skating tracks for cross-country skiers and 30 winter hiking trails are waiting to be explored.
Another highlight: the “Achensee-Bahn”, the oldest steam cog railway throughout Europe! Every summer the railway pants along 7 km from Jenbach to Maurach. This relict from ancient times in the heart of the mountains in North Tyrol, as well as the lake, is not only worth a picture, but also a ride. At the Notburga museum the railway takes a break. Since 1313 AD in this locality, there has been the grave of Saint Notburga of Rattenberg. Also the parish church is dedicated to this patron of servants and agriculture and is also worth a visit.
Our recommendation: the “Strasse der Lieder” (Road of Songs) is a wheelchair-accessible road leading from Buchau to the embarking point Seespitz. Along the 2 km long road there are 12 stages. At each one you can find a popular folk song. Have fun singing!
