Bichlbach

The village in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena is surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Lechtal Alps and Mt. Zugspitze

Altitude: 1,079 m a.s.l.

Bichlbach, including the component localities Wengle and Lähn, is a former mining village. It was mentioned for the first time around 1300 AD as "Puechelpach", which means a river surrounded by beeches. Until 1859, Bichlbach was the seat of a bricklayer and carpenter craft, a fact that is still remembered by the Baroque craft church dedicated to St. Joseph, which is the only preserved church of this kind in the germanophone area.

A tour invites you in summer to a hike on the Mühlwald Kleinstockach Path, a pleasant high route. In the village ifself you can find the leisure time park with a bathing lake, and the playground and petting zoo, where monkeys, rheas, fallow deer, marmots and an eagle live. Do you prefer action? Then the Forest Adventure Park Bichlbach welcomes you, where you can try the giant spider web and the world champion toboggan. In winter, the Almkopf Cable Car starts directly in the village and takes you to the Skiarena Berwang-Bichlbach, located on snow-sure 1,336 m above sea level.

Worthwhile is also a cultural trip to the Bichlbach Guild Museum near the parish church. It documents the history of the guides and crafts in the Ausserfern region: The exhibited objects provide interesting information about the work of painters, bricklayers and carpenters.
