Achenkirch

At the northern lakeside of Lake Achensee, there is Achenkirch with its Local Museum at the Sixenhof, a beautiful farmstead

Altitude: 916 m a.s.l.

Achenkirch is composed of several scattered hamlets in the Achental valley, extending up to the northern shores of Lake Achensee and to the Bavarian border. Already in 1313 AD, the village was known as "Achental". Around the turn of the last century, it became a popular destination for summer vacationists, including famous authors such as Peter Rosegger (1843-1918) and Ludwig Ganghofer (1855-1920). Felix Mitterer, famous Austrian playwright, was born here in 1948.

In the village and its surroundings, there are several places of interest, including 15 chapels dating back to the 18th, 19th and 20th century. Worthwhile is the traditional Sixenhof farm, in which the Local Museum Achental provides an insight into the lifestyle and handicraft of former times. Another famous building is the "Wine House" that was already mentioned in the 15th century, and which maintained its original form from 1672 up to present times. It serves as tavern today.

Summer at Achenkirch is characterized by the lake and the surrounding peaks with beautiful destinations such as the Ahornboden area and the Gramai Mountain Hut. Along the road to Maurach, however, you'll find a place for people who love the adventure: the Achensee forest high-rope course. In winter, the active offer starts in the valley with the cross-country ski track network, and continues in the Christlum Skiing Area with fabulous views from the ski slopes...
