The official seal “Bergwegegütesiegel”
“Secure hiking paths in Tyrol” is the motto of this campaign.
Since several years in Tyrol the campaign “Secure hiking paths in Tyrol” awards the so called “Bergwegegütesiegel” (quality seal for hiking paths). This campaign is is aimed at rendering North and East Tyrolean hiking paths even more secure (fig. Laserzsee lake in the Lienz Dolomites).
This quality seal for hiking paths is awarded for uniform signage compliant with the general Tyrolean hiking and mountain path rules, accurate difficulty classification, safeguarding of dangerous spots as well as general information for hikers on information panels and in information centres.
Signage
Yellow signage and red-white-red marks are considered the uniform signing for hiking trails. In general the paths are differentiated into hiking trails and mountain trails.
Hiking trails
Hiking trails are paths that pass through permanent settlement areas as well as forests and do not require any specific kit or clothing.
Mountain trails
Mountain trails are paths that pass above the timber line and require a basic alpine knowledge. According to the difficulty, these paths are differentiated into red and black paths.
Red mountain trails
Requirements include adequate fitness, a minimum mountain equipment and one person of the group with extensive mountaineering experience.
Black mountain trails
Additional to the requirements for red trails, we would like to mention that all hikers necessarily have to be sure-footed as well as free from giddiness.
We wish you pleasant hiking experiences in the mountains of Tyrol!
