Return of the cattle in Tyrol

Every year in autumn the cattle returns in the valleys from the alpine pastures.

The return of the cattle is a special event in Tyrol, and not only farmers and Alpine herdsman celebrate. Also visitors can look forward to this event!

At the end of summer season in September and October, there is a celebration in which people thank for a healthy and good summer season. In many Tyrolean valleys this tradition has been preserved and for this day the cattle is richly decorated with flowers, mirrors, ribbons and branches. Folklore music, dancing and tradition are at the centre of the celebration.

Below we gathered most important celebrations for you:

> September 13 (11 am) - Gschwendt
Return of the cattle with Tyrolean delicacies like “Kiachln”, “Spazln”, fish, roast, wuerstel, special bread and dumplings

> September 19 (10 am) - Pertisau
Return of the cattle with get-together, Bavarian veal sausage and pretzel and farmer’s market with entertainment with the music group “Die Lustigen Länder Buam”

> September 20 (9 am) - Lechaschau (nature park Reutte)
Around 9 am about 800 sheep from Schwarzwassertal valley will arrive at the Schiedplatz, at 2 pm you can admire a large number of richly decorated cows in the village. In the morning there will be a pleasant get-together, in the afternoon and evening music entertainment.

> September 20 (10 am) - Reith
Return of the cattle with farmer’s market and fair. Music and entertainment as well as traditional are food provided! Moreover you can see traditional handicraft.

> September 20 (10.30 am) - Kössen
“Kössener Almhoamfahr’n” with presentation of various horses as well as nostalgic show with perfromances of harvesting about 100 years ago. From 12.30 you can see richly decorated cows in the village. Moreover at 1 pm there will be a concert of the music group Kössen.

> September 20 (10.30 am) - Auffach
More than 500 animals return into the valley. There is a huge celebration in the centre of Auffach.

> September 20 (11.30 am) - Münster
Music and entertainment as well as Tyrolean delicacies. At 2 pm the decorated cattle arrive in the village.

> September 27 (10 am) - Zell in the Zillertal valley
Return of the cattle with celebration - music and entertainment provided by “Zellberg Buam” as well as a farmer’s maret expect you.

> October 2 - 5 (11.00 am) - Mayrhofen
“Ho Ruck Celebration” and return of the cattle in Mayrhofen at the aline dairy Zillertal in Mayrhofen
