Harvest festival
In many Tyrolean municipalities at the end of September and beginning of October, there is a huge celebration in order to thank for the rich harvest.
Harvest festivals in Tyrol can harken back on a long tradition, as these festivals have already been held in the seventies, when the harvest festivals used to be organised by local young farmers. The festival consists of a Holy Mass, in which rural products that have been harvested are hallowed.
One of the traditions is also the so called “Harvest Crown”, a huge crown that is lavishly decorated with flowers, corn, fruits and much more. The crown is the symbol for thanking for the rich harvest, which is brought into church by local farmers. After the Holy Mass there is a festival in the village, in which also a number of local associations take part, e.g. music group, fire service etc. Music and entertainment the whole day!
