This nature park is characterised by the high mountain area of the Ötztal Alps.

The name giver of the nature park, which is the Kaunergrat ridge, extends between the deeply incised valley of the Pitztal and Kaunertal valleys and is part of the Ötztal Alps. The area surrounding this ridge is famous for its original cultural landscape, which has been preserved up to today. So far the nature park has been subdevided into four further reserves.

Moreover the nature park includes all altitudes and offers a wide variety of regional peculiarities, which are best conveyed by the events provided by the summer and winter programme. Furthermore there are several theme paths, providing information on living environments and their inhabitants. Since 2007 the nature park also features the visitors’ centre “3000m VERTIKAL”, which is located where the Kaunertal, Pitztal and Inntal valleys meet. On the one hand this centre offers a great panoramic view, on the other hand useful information on the surroundings.
