Grawa waterfall

The Grawa waterfall in the Stubaital valley belongs to the concept “WildeWasserWeg” and is a popular destination for ice climbers.

In the rear Stubaital valley, about 15 km from Neustift im Stubaital and only 1 km from the Stubai Glacier, there is the great natural monument of the Grawa waterfall. Its waters cascade about 100 metres down into the depth. In 1979 this waterfall, by the way one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Austria and one of the widest of the East Alps, was officially declared a natural monument.

The Grawa waterfall is located near the Grawa mountain hut, which can also be reached by car. Already from the alpine pasture, located underneath the glacier road at 1,530 m asl, you can admire the waterfall. Within a short walk of 15 minutes you reach the panoramic platform, which makes you best admire the rushing and thundering of the Sulzbach river. The trail that takes to the upper platform is a little more challenging, but provides a breathtaking view.

The Grawa waterfall is integrated into the “Stubaier WildeWasserParks” and the famous trail “WildeWasserWeg”, aimed at bringing the most beautiful water places of the Stubaital valley nearer to visitors. Moreover it addresses all the senses. The first stage for example takes to the Grawa waterfall. The trail to the Grawa waterfall has been established by the alpine guides of the Stubaital valley, in order to keep it part of the natural monument. The path takes along the waterfall, and further on to the upper platform. In winter the waterfall attracts above all ice climbers, and of course also spectators watching the ice acrobats.
