Pitztal Glacier
The highest located glacial skiing area (3,440 m asl) casts a spell over all winter sports enthusiasts.
The Pitztal Glacier is considered to be one of the most beautiful glacial areas worldwide. Not least because of the Wildspitze mountain (3,774 m) and the Taschach Eisbruch, it is also a very popular area for ski mountaineering. A striking high alpine scenery, snow-sure slopes, an area of 85 hectares, 37 km of ski slopes (68 km of ski slopes in the Pitztal Glacier - Rifflsee skiing area), 12 km high elevated cross-country ski tracks and winter sports from September to May, that’s what the Pitztal Glacier is all about. However, one of the challenges you have to face when skiing on the glacier is the 12 km long Taschach slope.
The lift facilities Pitztal express and Pitztaler Panoramabahn take you onto the Pitztal Glacier. Enjoy the sun on the panoramic terrace at 2,840 m asl and the great view on the impressive mountains.
Fun and action is also provided by a snowboard funpark as well as a children’s snow park, where your kids can enjoy playing with their friends. Kinds aged under 10 go for free in parents’ company in the lift facilities. You’re here in summer? Then the kids can take part in climbing courses in “Pitzis children’s club”.
At the valley station of the Pitztaler Panoramabahn funicular, a glacial path begins, which leads to the Taschach-Haus refuge, past the impressive Wildspitze and Brochkogel mountain, and provides great insights and views on the fantastic scenery. In a guided tour you also have the possibility to “immerge” into an ice crevice, which is an unforgettable experience!
