Tyrol offers perfect conditions for hiking – best evidence for this statement are six of the most popular long-distance walking trails of the Alps, crossing also the area of Tyrol: Adlerweg, E5, Lechtaler Höhenweg, Way of St. James (Jakobsweg), Via Alpina and Via Claudia Augusta.
The course of the Adlerweg symbolises a proud eagle spreading its wings across Tyrol. The main course of the Adlerweg run from St. Johann in Tirol via Kufstein, lake Achensee, Innsbruck via Steinseehütte refuge and Württenberger house to the Memminger refuge to St. Anton.
The European long-distance walking trail E 5 starts at Lake Constance to the Adriatic sea. Zams and the Zammer Loch, which is one of the most beautiful high mountain valleys of Europe, is one of the most popular stops hikers make along the E 5 hiking trail.
The Way of St. James is the most famous Christian pilgrims’ path and ends at the tomb of St. James in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The Tyrolean localities of the pilgrim path Way of St. James includes are Zams, Landeck, Stanz and Grins, before the trail proceeds towards Vorarlberg.
The Lechtaler Höhenweg crosses the homonymous Alps and aligns with the course of the North Alpine Path Nr. 601 and the European long-distance trail n° 4. This fantastic high alpine trail snakes along numerous peaks of the Lechtal Alps.
The yellow Via Alpina is a project of 8 alpine countries which signed the Alpine Convention. The Yellow trail includes 40 stages and three countries and it also crosses Tyrol. It starts in Triest and crosses the Alps up to an altitude of 3,000 m asl.
Hiking along the Via Claudia Augusta you will come across remainings of Roman times, e.g. parts of streets, bridges, milestones and much more. This popular hiking path crosses the Trolean localities Imst, Zams, Landeck, Fliess and Nauders. The Via Claudia Augusta starts in Donauwörth and ends in Ostiglia.
